Kindergarten in Artashavan Powered by Solar Energy Thanks to Ucom and SunChild

A solar power plant with a capacity of 10.53 kWh has been installed on the roof of the newly built kindergarten in Artashavan, Ashtarak district, as part of the collaboration between Ucom and SunChild NGO.

Although the kindergarten is not yet operational, this solar installation ensures that it will benefit from sustainable energy from its first day of service, fully covering its electricity needs. The savings generated from reduced energy costs can be reinvested into other developmental projects, offering significant benefits to the community.

"At Ucom, we value technological progress and green solutions. It’s especially rewarding to apply these advancements for the benefit of our communities. Installing solar stations at kindergartens ensures that our younger generations grow up with awareness of sustainable and eco-friendly practices," said Ralph Yirikian, General Director of Ucom.

"Today, when the whole world is facing climate change and environmental disasters, it is extremely important to keep these threats in mind in all the work being carried out and to plan steps aimed at their adaptation. The transition to sustainable energy is one of the steps that will allow both saving financial resources and using renewable energy without harming the environment," said Sona Kalantaryan, Director of SunChild NGO.

The newly built kindergarten is designed for 160 children. From January 2025, it will open its doors to more than 60 children not only from the Artashavan settlement, but also from neighboring Saghmosavan, Ushi, Ohanavan, with plans to expand in the future.

Since the energy produced by the installed plant will be much more than the kindergarten needs, the surplus will be redirected to provide the outdoor lighting in the Artashavan settlement. More than 700 people live in Artashavan, and outdoor lighting is an important guarantee of their safety in the evening and at night.
