Ucom and Sunchild NGO install another solar plant in Areni

A solar power plant with a capacity of 10.44 kWh was installed for the newly built kindergarten in the Areni settlement of Vayots Dzor as part of collaboration between Ucom and the Sunchild NGO.

The community kindergarten was built quite recently and opened in September of this year. From the outset, the building plans included provisions for a solar plant, and the Areni community approached Ucom and Sunchild for assistance with its installation.

The newly installed solar plant, located on the kindergarten's roof, is expected to significantly reduce electricity expenses. Furthermore, if the facility transitions to electric heating, the solar plant’s output will be able to fully support these additional needs.

"It is gratifying to see sustainable energy solutions incorporated from the start in new buildings across our marzes, and Ucom is pleased to join such initiatives whenever possible. Our goal is for sustainable living to become second nature in Armenia, and it’s especially heartening that such initiatives benefit our children," said Ralph Yirikian, the General Director of Ucom.

"Establishing sustainable energy sources is critical for community development, providing immediate economic benefits and demonstrating the importance of local solutions," said Sona Kalantaryan, Director of SunChild NGO.

"We would like to give special thanks to Ucom and Sunchild for this assistance to the community. The solar plant will significantly reduce community expenses and provide heat and warmth to the children of Areni," noted the head of Areni community Husik Sahakyan.

Currently, the Areni kindergarten serves about 80 children but has the capacity to accommodate 120. The building integrates modern architectural features designed to make children’s daily routines as safe and engaging as possible. The solar installation further supports this goal, representing a successful example of community sustainability and environmental stewardship.
